The sheltered homes offer the residents a suitable apartment and the necessary services as well a the opportunity to have meals. The residents can meet other residents in the common rooms and participate in various events. The residents make a rental agreement with the City of Turku. In addition to the rent, the residents have to pay separately for the services used. How to become a residentThe elderly who have difficulties managing daily routines in their own home have the possibility to become a resident at a sheltered home. Inadequate washing facilities, difficult stairs or the use of equipment may cause various difficulties. Apart from needing an apartment, the need for home care services is a precondition for becoming a resident at a sheltered home. The social workers within the sphere of services for the elderly and home care services select the residents for the sheltered homes.
