The City of Turku Education Division
Basic education is free all-round education, which is given to all children residing permanently in Finland. Compulsory education means that all children must go to school in Finland.
Compulsory education begins the same year that the child has his/her 7th birthday. Compulsory education continues until the age of 17, unless the student has graduated before that.

The registration for first grade is done online. More information in Finnish: www.turku.fi/ekaluokalle.
The student's school is determined by his/her home address. Schools offer teaching primarily for students of their own student precinct. You can find out to which precinct you belong to by clicking open the map below and entering your home address as search term. Links
